On July 23, 2021, Acting U.S. Attorney John E. Childress and Assistant United States Attorney Matthew J. Rinka motioned to dismiss the case against Kaikai Zhao, a doctoral student in machine learning and artificial intelligence from China at Indiana University, with prejudice, in the interests of justice.
On July 23, 2020, the Department of Justice announced the arrest of Kaikai Zhao and charged him with one count of visa fraud and one count of making false statement.
