WHAT: 2022 Lunar New Year Festival: Year of the Tiger

DESCRIPTION: A FREE full-day, family-friendly outdoor event featuring a wide variety of cultural and family activities, vendors, LNY merchandise, delicious food, and exciting performances to welcome in the Year of the Tiger! An annual tradition in Houston’s Asiatown since 2003, the festival celebrates both the Lunar New Year and the beauty of Houston’s vast cultural diversity. This year, the Festival will also kick off a series of exciting Asian Heritage seasonal programs that will highlight the culinary delights, artistic wonders, and ancient traditions of Asian cultures. Our event will be held outdoor on our campus and will recommend all guests on site to wear a mask to maintain a safe and memorable experience with your friends and family. About 10,000 "We Belong" Yellow Whistles will be distributed free during this event.

The TV show's idea is to bring Relational Policing to the next level.

Event organizers included the board of APAPA North Texas, including Francine Ly, Sinmin Pak, Jan Xie, Alicia Chang and Nancy Tiên. Among invited speakers and partner organizations were greater Dallas elected officials, community leaders, local advocacy organizations and local media. Key speakers included, City Councilmembers Maria Tu (Plano), John Jun (Coppell), Pat Cochran (Carrollton), Councilman-Elect Joe Corcoran (Richardson), and prominent local organizers Rev. Peter Johnson of NAACP Dallas, Minister Dominique Alexander of Next Generation Action Network, Miss Dallas 2020 Averie Bishop, Jan Xie, president of OCA-DFW, Stephanie Drenka, founder of Visible Magazine, Sarah Jaladon, founding member of Malaya Texas and Amy Tran-Calhoun, founder of the Women of Asian Descent group in Dallas. Sponsors include Tillerson Law, Witherite Law Group, State District Judge Dale Tillery and Justice of the Peace Judge Margaret O’Brien.
