Legal Docket by CourtListener: United States v. Lei (8:20-cr-00127)
On August 28, 2020, the Department of Justice announced the arrest of Lei Guan, a visiting researcher from China to study mathemtics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He was initially charged with one count of destroying evidence to obstruct an FBI investigation. Two subsequent superceding charges included visa fraud and making false statements. His case is listed as one of the "China Initiative" cases.
On July 23, 2021, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California and Assistant U.S. Attorneys George E. Pence and William M. Rollins motioned to dismiss the case.
