FBI Director Wray

(in progress)

During the 1950s, McCarthyism and the campaign against alleged communists also impacted Asian Americans.  Former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover raised public suspicion that Chinese American scientists collaborated with China.  Former FBI Director James Comey advocated "to name and shame through indictments or sanctions or public relations campaigns."

During a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on February 13, 2018 on worldwide threats to the US, current FBI Director Chris Wray singled out Chinese students and scholars as a national security threat as potential spies for China. The remarks sparked strong protest from Chinese communities in the US.
